FOR NURSERIES & SCHOOLS

KEY FINDINGS FROM THE 2024 CLPE REFLECTING REALITIES REPORT - formally Ethnic Representation within K  children's Literature.

Overall representation dropped for the first time, as only 17 % of children's books published in 2023 featured  a racially minorised character, down from 30%  in 2022. This is the first year  the report has shown an annual decrease since the survey began.

What Schools Say About Us

“I have been a customer of Melanin Child Stories for about 2 years and Suzy and her invaluable team have been reliable, friendly and very much focussed and in touch with the needs of our local school community. I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent book shop to anyone who is looking for an efficient and speedy service.” Eleanor Palmer Primary School, Camden.

“Suzy and her staff offer an excellent service, from recommendations to prompt delivery, and excellent value for money. The team are consistently friendly and helpful.” Willow Brook Primary School Academic.

I choose to use Melanin Child Stories because they understand that education is more than this. Their involvement and dedication to getting pupils and students to read is first rate and if more retailers did this then my job would be easier in many ways. A business like Melanin Child Stories allows you to deal with real people who share a love of books and learning. They know what you want and the ins and outs of your job and they fit in with your constraints. You can rely on them every time.” St Josephs Junior School, Leyton, London.
